The Client:
Potter Clarkson LLP, are one of Europe’s foremost firms of patent and trade mark attorneys. They advise clients around the globe on intellectual property rights in biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, computing and a plethora of related areas. They have achieved three ISO accreditations which evidence the high level of service provision, information security and environmental awareness that they have. Only a mere handful of UK patent and trade mark firms have achieved all three of these internationally recognised accreditations.
With a single location, in Nottingham, and more than a hundred and twenty-five staff and as many years in business, they provide a thorough, efficient service tailored to the challenges faced by their clients.
The Challenge:
Alex Handford, Director at Blues Point, was approached by Potter Clarkson to see if they could help this leading law firm, to source a Technical Software Lead who was technically hands-on, but also had the right positive behaviours to lead the existing IT team.
The Strategy:
Working alongside Philip Morris, Practice Manager and Laura Whitehead, HR Advisor, at Potter Clarkson, Alex and Steph Knipe, who heads up the Recruitment team at Blues Point, created a recruitment timetable and detailed job brief, including all of the ideal candidate’s technical and personal qualities, the challenges the candidate would face and what they would need to achieve in order to be successful.
In order to validate the candidates’ fit for the role/organisation in an objection fashion, it was agreed that the following assessments would be incorporated into the recruitment project:
IKM TeckCheck – an objective measure of a candidate’s technical capability, theoretical and applied
Personality Profiling Assessment (PPA) – do the candidate’s behavioural strengths match the job role?
Motivational Maps – what motivates the candidate at work and to what level?
It was then agreed that Blues Point would carry out all first interviews with candidates at the Potter Clarkson offices, providing detailed interview notes and recommendations as to each candidate’s suitability using a competency based interview format.
ROI:
It took Blues Point 6 weeks to source the perfect candidate for Potter Clarkson and so the business had the right person in place to lead the IT development team. Potter Clarkson were delivered a management plan based on the candidate’s behaviours as part of the recruitment project
As a result, Potter Clarkson had the tools to effectively manage, engage and retain the successful candidate and build this into their on-boarding and induction program.
